Boundaries… the ones we can depend on…

A recurring message I’ve been receiving recently is this:

Your policies only work when you enforce them

Simple, right?

Apparently notsomuch.

Truth is, it’s a lot easier to make a list of policies and put them in your contract and on your website than it is to actually have to employ your boundaries and have the icky conversations.

It’s not enough to hope that you never run into one of those situations. If you want to stay in business, you’ve GOT to be prepared.

Like…

  • What do you do when after 7 years, you get your first refund request?
  • How many hours will you waste on people who never will buy from you because you ignore red flags and your intuition?
  • How do you respond to someone looking to barter but you have no use for what they’re offering?

The answers are in your policies and your boundaries… but also in the confidence to enforce those policies and boundaries. Maybe you’ll be blessed enough to not have to put your foot down; but don’t wait until that time comes to try and figure those policies out. You could lose more than a sale/client.
